🍹 Don T Take The Lord'S Name In Vain

Don’t lie. I used to do this for every commandment because it made things simple to follow and keep track of. Obviously the commandments are not as simple as things to not do, but this is how I learned to obey them. For “You shall not invoke the name of the Lord, your God, in vain,” I associated that with simply avoiding swearing.

In Exodus 3:14, God introduces himself to Moses as “I am who I am,” often shortened to simply “I AM.”. The self-existent, self-sustaining one. His existence and power depend on no one and nothing but himself. He is the God who is. The third commandment is found in Exodus 20:7: You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain Exodus 20:1-26. 1 And God spake all these words, saying, 2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or Lord’s name in vain”) was given… (Read Exodus 20:7)not to enslave us but to keep us from the bondage and dysfunction brought by sin. So many of you are thinking great news! The commandments are for my good and finally here is one that I don’t break. Maybe you remember the soap in your mouth or the belt across your hind end for Whenever we fail to live up to what God requires while claiming to be a disciple of Christ, we take the name of God in vain. In Matthew 15, Christ says, “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.”. We are asked to praise God in our words and in every aspect of our lives.
